From Fr. Tom,

Today’s first reading from Isaiah is used very often at funeral liturgies because of the beautiful assurances from God that He will wipe away the tears from all faces and He will destroy death forever. On this mountain, the Kingdom of Heaven, He will do this. The invitation to come is there and there is no need for a reservation. Just make sure you are dressed appropriately or risk being thrown out into the darkness outside, according to the Gospel parable. When encountering someone, we might look first at their clothing and make a quick decision as to where they were earlier. To attend a formal gathering dirty and dressed like a bum isn’t the best thing to do. There must be some effort to look nice so as not to offend the host. The clothing referred to in the parables is our daily life and disposition to God. Will we be properly dressed when our time at the feast comes?
