From Fr. Tom,
Storms and boats don’t mix…especially at night! Yet this is exactly the scenario in our Gospel reading with Jesus and his disciples, PLUS there were other boats with them. Apparently, the weather forecasting at that time was horrendous! Seriously, couldn’t anyone tell there was a storm brewing? As I think about it now, I like to sleep through storms, just like Jesus, but NOT IN A BOAT! We can analyze this story maybe by saying the boats are each one of us living our lives on the beautiful, yet unpredictable, sea of life while having faith in God when the unpleasant things come up. Or we can say it’s not safe to go out and actually live life as God’s commands and it is better off to just stay home by ourselves. Or we can be smart and cry out to God at all times, but especially when the evil waves start overcoming us. Knowing Christ is there for us at all times brings a calm and peace to everything we do, wherever we are.
Smooth sailing, everybody!
