From Fr. Tom,
A few weeks ago, I come across an article on the internet that told about some once famous athletes, TV personalities and movie stars who basked in the glory and fame of the spotlight and possessed wealth beyond belief who are now broke or just barely making it, or worse. “How did that happen?”, we ask ourselves. We might also claim that if we had all that fame and fortune, that it would never happen to us! We might also dream of being one of those “lucky” lottery winners having enormous, unearned wealth being thrust upon us. Be careful what we wish for! All three readings at Mass today tell us and warn us that we must be grounded in God’s will for us rather than trying to attain what the world values. To quote Archbishop Rozanski a few months ago during a radio interview: “The way of the world is not the way to salvation.” None of the values listed in today’s readings guarantee worldly success, but they do assure us of our great reward in heaven. Let’s choose the latter, shall we? God bless you.
