From Fr. Tom,

Back to ordinary time with our liturgy and the sequence of Sunday readings! Our second reading today talks about our bodies being sacred and should not be desecrated in any way. St. Paul talks to the Corinthians (who at that time had A LOT of problems with physical immorality) about the holiness of their bodies and the place where the Holy Spirit lives. Sometimes nowadays, the issues of tattoos and “body piercing” come up as being contrary to the sacredness of the human body. I don’t know. Personally, I don’t have any tattoos or piercings because I just figure I am as God made me, no need for “customizing.” The only thing I think about when tattooing or piercing topics come up is that those things are mostly permanent and there might be some regret later on. So to all those contemplating any “body altering” techniques, take a step back and think long and hard about what you will look like years from now, and ask yourself if you (and others, for that matter) will be happy with the effects of your prior choices. To be sure, our bodies are holy places where the Spirit lives!
