From Fr. Tom,
“Please allow six to eight weeks for delivery.” These eight words formed my first lesson in patience as a child. If you are old enough to remember as a kid sending away for something on the back of a cereal box, you would mail in a certain number of “box tops” and then run to the mailbox every day expecting the item. Then after a month or so, you forgot you even ordered anything and then, at last, it comes in the mail. What a surprise! As a country, we are not a very patient people. Instant this and instant that, same day service, two day delivery are things we expect nowadays. Some folks even get angry when their texts or phone calls aren’t answered immediately. Imagine the patience of people before the coming of Christ being told for generations their savior is coming. If we could just tap into that patient, prayerful waiting with confidence. Patient people are much less likely to be in a hurry. The time spent looking forward to something great can be a true blessing in itself.
