From Fr. Tom,
Today’s feast, the Baptism of the Lord, may be confusing to some of us because we know that if Jesus is God, why did He need to be baptized? After all, He’s God! The fact is that Jesus did not need to be baptized, but rather He chose to be baptized linking Himself with each beautiful act of baptism that would follow, including our own. This is why we, as a church, end our Christmas season of worship with this feast. Jesus’ birth has joined God with us, or “Emanuel.” Now it’s up to us to live out our baptism every day by loving God and our neighbor. Finally, say a prayer for your godparents today!
