“…and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” These last words of The Lord’s Prayer ring out loudly and clearly in our readings this first Sunday of Lent! The topics of the fall, Adam and Eve, the serpent and the apple, have sometimes been the fodder of comedians and joke tellers all throughout history. The jokes may be humorous in their own right, but sin and temptation are anything but funny. Adam and Eve failed and gave into the devil’s wishes. Jesus, on the other hand, shows perfectly how to resist the devil. Original sin is upon us. It is here and we have to deal with it. It is part of our human condition. What are we doing about it? Have a blessed and holy Lenten season.
