From Fr. Tom,
The gospels for Sundays this year in the “B” cycle of readings are taken from St. Mark, but for the next few weeks we have John’s gospel to consider when he talks about the bread of life, the bread from heaven. Let’s remind ourselves that the gospel of John doesn’t include an account of the Last Supper unlike the other three gospels that do. This makes John’s mention of Jesus feeding the crowds with the loaves and fishes so significant. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John all agree that Jesus is the bread of life that came down from heaven, literally and figuratively. In today’s first reading, the prophet Elisha does the same thing Jesus did, feeding a multitude of people with a small amount of food. And there were leftovers in both accounts! A very old prayer says this: “As the broken fragments were scattered over the hills, they were gathered together. In the same way, may the church be gathered together into your Kingdom.” Amen.

ALSO, next weekend we will welcome Fr. Joseph Arackal V.C. a Vincentian priest to celebrate masses and ask for your support for the Vincentian Missions! Much of their work is done in India bringing food, education, housing, and the Gospel message to the poor. I know you will be generous to this most deserving cause. Welcome Fr. Arakal with open and generous arms!

ALSO, ALSO, I will be away from July 31st through noon(?) August 7th doing some camping and cabin work. Be assured of my prayers for you during this time. Thank you!
